The Box, At The Yard Sale

As I rustled through the contents
Of a yard sale box
There was an army duffle bag
Amongst some old rags

I noticed a picture
In a brand new frame
Of a handsome young man
Dressed in his army uniform

Further down the bottom
Of this yard sale box
Was a man's gold watch
Carved with initials... J.P.C

Are all these treasures
In this duffle bag
From a loved one
That was lost at sea, or land?

A GI Joe that talks
A stack of letters
And a gold cross
No longer on a chain

As I dug, further in the box
I found a wedding band
A tear began to fall
As it slipped from my hand

As I stared at the contents
In the yard sale box
I started to pray
For our soldiers in Iraq

I saw a young lady, sitting next to me
She gently, picked up the yard sale box
And said...
This is all the memories
And... it's all I have left
